LOORS @ Glen Helen / July 26-28 2013

The SakTea race team left SD on Thursday and made our way north to Glen Helen. . . Temp 102, not fun. We set up camp and had a little fun talking with fellow racers and race teams. Friday came and it was a full day of work, the first time we had 1 practice and 2 qualifying  in the same day.  This kept the team very busy.  After first practice we were 7th and the truck didn’t feel right.  We had tested at Glen Helen 3 weeks earlier and felt like we had our ducks in a row.  The track prep was different from the test date, the simplest way to explain it is like taking a dirt bike to the sand dunes.  After qualifying we were 13th for sat race and 11th for sun race – not good.  Sat race was a night race and mother nature was letting up on the heat.  The start found us in the back end of a first lap crash and were now in 18th, we put our heads down and made our way back to 7th and with a post race problem for another competitor and left us with a 6th place finish. Not a bad finish for being dead last at one point in the race!

Sunday’s race was to be our time to shine.  On the opening laps we made some good moves and found ourselves battling with Kyle Leduc, the changes Dustin made were working out great and with some advise from fellow pro 4 racer Eric Baron on gearing and Mr. G changing our Lenco gear reduction, we were going forward. The gear change helped with allowing 2nd gear to run longer on track – the fastest laps we made all weekend.  6-7 laps into the race the truck changed, something was going wrong, I thought we had a right rear going down?? Dustin came on the radio and said no the tire is good???  The truck just kept getting more loose.  In the end we managed to save an 11th place finish.  We had a great time at this race and enjoyed our sponsor’s time.   I would like to thank all the people and sponsors that make it possible for us to “Live the Dream”!
